Transparent pricing

What an EV charger install actually costs in LA.

Real ranges, no marketing fluff. These reflect typical LA-area quotes (parts + labor + permits) before rebates.

Installation type
Typical LA cost
Basic Level 2 Charger near panel, short conduit run
$800–$1,500
Panel upgrade required Older 100A panel needs upgrade to 200A
$2,800–$5,000
Detached garage / long run Trenching, 60+ ft. of conduit
$3,500–$7,000

What drives the price?

Distance to your panel. Every foot of conduit, wire, and trenching adds cost. Garages right next to the panel are cheapest.

Panel capacity. Many LA homes built before 1995 have 100A or 125A panels. EV chargers often require an upgrade to 200A.

Permits & inspection. LA requires a permit for any Level 2 install. Expect $150–$350 in city fees, which our installers handle.

Charger choice. Tesla Wall Connector and ChargePoint Home Flex are around $400–$700. Hardwired or plug-in changes labor too.

Is the service really free for me?
Yes. ChargeReady LA is 100% free for homeowners. Licensed installers pay us a small referral fee when a project closes. You only pay the installer's quoted price for your installation — never a fee to us.
How long does installation take?
Most LA-area Level 2 installations take 2–4 hours of on-site work once permits are pulled. Total timeline from quote to charging is typically 1–2 weeks, including LA Department of Building & Safety inspection.
Do I need a permit?
Yes, the City of Los Angeles requires a permit for any Level 2 charger install. Your matched installer handles the permit application, inspection scheduling, and final sign-off — you don't have to deal with city hall.
What if my electrical panel is too old?
Many LA homes built before 1995 have 100A or 125A panels that need an upgrade to support a Level 2 charger. Your installer will inspect your panel, factor any upgrade into the quote, and walk you through your options. A panel upgrade typically adds $1,500–$3,500 to the project.
What rebates am I eligible for?
LADWP customers can get up to $1,500 through the Charge Up LA! program. SCE customers can get up to $1,000 from Charge Ready Home. Some homeowners qualify for the federal 30C tax credit (up to $1,000 in eligible areas). Your installer will tell you exactly which rebates you qualify for in your quote.
Which chargers do you install?
Our network installs all major Level 2 brands: Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Emporia EV Charger, Grizzl-E, Enphase IQ EV Charger, and others. Tell us your EV in the quiz and we'll recommend the best fit.
Do you work with renters or condos?
We focus on single-family homeowners since condo/HOA approvals add significant complexity. If you rent or live in a condo, you can still start the quiz — we'll let you know if we have an installer who handles that scenario in your area.
What does ChargeReady LA actually do?
We're a matching service for LA-area EV charger installations. We don't install anything ourselves — we vet the licensed installers in our network, screen your project to make sure we route you to the right specialist, and stay involved if anything goes sideways. Think of us as a concierge: faster than Yelp, more rigorous than asking a contractor friend.
