Step 1: Identify your utility.

The biggest single rebate comes from your electric utility — but LA has FIVE different utilities, and you only qualify for the one that serves YOUR home. Don’t apply to the wrong one.

UtilityCities served
LADWPMost of LA city, Hollywood, Venice, Wilmington, Sherman Oaks (most), San Fernando Valley (most), Pacific Palisades
SCELong Beach, Beverly Hills, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Pasadena suburbs (South Pas, Sierra Madre), Whittier, Glendora
PWPPasadena only
GWPGlendale only
BWPBurbank only

Not sure? Look at your last electric bill — the utility name is at the top. Or check ladwp.com/service-area for LADWP’s territory map.

Step 2: Apply for your utility rebate.

LADWP Charge Up LA!

Up to $1,500 for income-qualified customers (under $103,000 household income in 2026), $750 for standard. Requires Level 2 charger, ENERGY STAR certified, professionally installed. Application at ladwp.com/chargeupla.

SCE Charge Ready Home

Up to $1,000 toward installation costs. Pre-approval required BEFORE install begins. Application at sce.com/ev/charge-ready-home. Allow 4–6 weeks for approval; another 6–8 weeks for rebate payment after inspection.

PWP Residential EV Charger Rebate

Up to $600 for Pasadena residents. Application after inspection at cityofpasadena.net/water-and-power. Funds processed in 4–8 weeks.

GWP Residential EV Charger Rebate

BWP EV Charger Rebate

Up to $500 for Burbank residents. Apply at burbankca.gov/web/bwp. 6–8 week processing.

Your installer should handle all this paperwork. If they don’t — pick a different installer. This is what they’re paid for.

Step 3: Claim the federal 30C tax credit.

The Alternative Fuel Refueling Property Credit covers 30% of your installation cost (up to $1,000) for chargers in qualifying census tracts.

To qualify, your home must be in either:

Many LA neighborhoods qualify — particularly East LA, South LA, Sun Valley, North Hollywood, parts of Long Beach, parts of Pasadena. Check eligibility at energy.gov or ask your tax preparer. You claim it on IRS Form 8911 with your federal return.

Important: 30C is a tax credit (not refund). You must have federal tax liability to claim it. Most LA homeowners do.

Step 4: Apply for any bonus city/state programs.

Smaller programs come and go. Currently active in 2026:

FAQ.

Can I stack ALL these rebates?
Yes — utility rebate + federal 30C + state CVRP all stack. The only stacking limitation: you cannot claim the federal 30C credit on the portion already covered by the utility rebate (only on your actual out-of-pocket cost).
Do I need to apply BEFORE the install?
Some yes, some no. SCE Charge Ready Home requires pre-approval. LADWP, PWP, GWP, BWP all process after-the-fact. Your installer will know the timing rules.
What if I install before knowing about the rebates?
For after-the-fact programs (LADWP, PWP, GWP, BWP), you can usually still apply within 6 months of install. For SCE which requires pre-approval, you lose the rebate if you started before applying.
Will my rebate be reduced if I take other incentives?
Generally no. Each program operates independently. The federal 30C is the only one with stacking limitations and only against itself.
