Valley heat changes the install.
Most EV chargers are rated for 100–105°F ambient. In Sherman Oaks, an outdoor charger in direct sun can hit 130°F+ in summer afternoons. The charger throttles output (charging slower) or shuts off entirely. Long-term, heat shortens charger lifespan substantially.
What our Valley installers do differently:
- Shaded placement — install in the coolest available wall (north-facing or interior garage when possible)
- Higher-rated models — ChargePoint Home Flex (rated to 122°F), Wallbox Pulsar Plus (rated to 122°F), or Tesla Wall Connector (rated to 122°F) all work in Valley heat
- Heat sink airflow — leave 6+ inches around the charger; do not box in
- NEMA 3R or 4 outdoor enclosures for outdoor-mounted units to add thermal mass and dust protection
